Presenter: Heidi Schlegel '07, Assistant Professor, Rochester Institute of Technology
Heidi E. Schlegel ʼ07, NCIDQ is an Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Rochester Institute of Technology. With over 10-years-experience as an educator, she brings her passion for innovative, sustainable and cutting edge design solutions to the next generation of designers. Holding a Masters of Architecture with a specialization in Interior Design from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, her academic research focuses on supporting widespread implementation and standardization of sustainable practices in the residential building industry.
As a private practitioner, Heidi has over 25 years-experience with residential and small commercial projects. Her holistic design approach, connects the impacts of the built environment to the functional, physical and psychological needs of the client. As owner and senior designer of HT Interior Design, an environmentally responsible design/build firm, she focused on creative designs and sustainable solutions for healthy living environments. Her firm was the only in the area to focus solely on sustainable construction practices that protect both human health and the environment. Projects focused on implementing sustainable practices; lean building, protective land management, efficient systems, materials/product analyses for macro and micro environmental impacts as well as universal design strategies. Specialties include custom furniture and casework utilizing reclaimed materials.
Heidi is a professional member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), an active contributing member to the International Design Educators Council (IDEC) as well as a Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) Site Visitor.
